Where to buy? Banggood
Bluedio is a chinese brand also registered in the US, which is known for manufacturing audio products with good value for the money. And depending on the retail price, this may be the case of the BS6 bluetooth speaker, but I think its advertising may be misleading and this is can be a big problem.
Online stores frequently advertise this product with expressions such as “powerful bass”, or showing graphics of its internal structure, which would favor the lower frequencies. And well… Things don’t go exactly that way. It has 10 watts of power, and the sound is characterized exactly by NOT having strong bass as a highlight. Note: I don’t mean that it’s a bad speaker for that, but it deviates from the category standard of having a warm sound, which frequently hides some medium or high frequencies.
I’d say that this box has a more balanced sound, without those low frequencies that dominate the scene, a nice profile for those who like podcasts, classic rock and so. The real problem is that when someone is led by the brand advertising and buys this one waiting for a Beats-like bassy sound, well… This can be a frustration. It’s possible to change things a bit in any equalizer app, but from factory, strong bass isn’t the sound signature of the model.
It’s a bit bigger than you’d expect for a 10W speaker, and the design, reminiscent of Bose models, it brings materials that are less premium than the stores’ images make it look. There is some rubber here and there that are not the most exuberant thing, for example.
Besides that, it has a function that may seem important, but in practice, it’s not: the 3D sound mode. Activated by a top button, that would give a dimensional sound experience. But it’s just an equalization like those available in softwares – big room sound, live show sound and similar profiles. Audio is simply better by default.
Oh, and this speaker has two very welcome features: first, it already uses the USB-C plug, something that still comes in a minority of these products. The second thing is that it brings Bluetooth 5.0, which in theory contributes to signal stability and lower power consumption. I can attest that stability is fine, since I didn’t experience any issues with signal loss. And battery life was also good, at least because it exceeded my initial expectation. The manufacturer reported 5 hours autonomy, and I easily got 7 or more. Maybe this has to do with the volume, which I always put below 50%.
The conclusion about Bluedio BS6 is that it is not a bad product. Really. Sound quality can be interesting, since it diverges from the boxes based on low frequencies, and battery life is OK. On the other hand, it’s a little bigger than it should , and can be disappointing for whoever buys it following the manufacturer claims about bass.
PROS:
– A less bassy sound can be good
– Better than advertised battery
CONS:
– NOT for bass lovers
– Build quality isn’t as premium as it may seem
